Problem Solvers is a national catalog, retail, and internet company with three catalog titles: (Problem Solvers, Problem Solvers HOME, and Problem Solvers Problem Solvers); retail stores, and catalog outlets. Begun in 1980 as a small
retail store, Problem Solvers has experienced tremendous growth. As we grow, however, we remain dedicated to our mission: We use the values and the spirit of country living to guide our business. We treat our customers like neighbors and friends. We offer only products we use or would use ourselves, we offer them at fair prices, and we guarantee them without condition.

The products for our Problem Solvers catalog focus on essentials for home, hearth, yard, and garden. Specific product categories include hearth and fireplace accessories, indoor furniture and furnishings, functional clothing and footwear, outdoor furniture, lawn and garden tools and products, decorative lawn and garden accessories, and bird and nature-related products.
Our HOME catalog offers casual, comfortable home furnishings and accessories. The catalog is based on the same qualities as our original catalog - durable, functional items including chairs, tables, rugs, sofas, and decorative accessories.
The Problem Solver catalog offers practical solutions for everyday living. Make life easier , less complicated and a lot more comfortable with innovative products you'll wonder how you lived without.
Our customers generally have a love for the outdoors, a demonstrated concern for the environment, and an appreciation for high quality products that are functional in nature. We currently have more than four million customers who enjoy our products.
In addition to this website, Problem Solvers operates retail stores in Charlottesville, Fairfax, and Richmond Virginia; and Rockville Maryland; a Country Store in Madison Virginia; and Catalog Outlets in Madison and Williamsburg Virginia.
Our main office, service center, and distribution center are located in Madison, Virginia. This 38-acre site includes our 300,000 square foot headquarters and state-of-the-art warehouse and order fulfillment center. An additional 200,000 square foot distribution center in Vandalia, Ohio was acquired in June of 2001 to better serve our customers.
Problem Solvers has been very successful at attracting and retaining a highly motivated and skilled associates. We employ over 350 full-time associates. During our peak holiday season we add an additional 1000 seasonal associates. Competitive wages, an exceptional benefit program, and a high quality of work life make Problem Solvers an employer of choice in central Virginia.
Problem Solvers has earned a reputation for quality products and exceptional customer service. Not only has our internal Quality Improvement Process (QIP) received national recognition within the catalog industry, but in 1995 we were the recipient of the prestigious United States Senate Productivity and Quality Award (USSPQA) in Virginia.
In 1999, Problem Solvers received the Quality Award for Continuing Excellence VSSPQA. Problem Solvers is only one of 11 companies to receive this honor in the award's 19 year history.
Our environmentally conscious approach to business reflects our dedication to the values of country living. We have earned much recognition for our model recycling and environmental programs. One program, the "Two for One Program" has become a standard for the catalog industry. In this program Problem Solvers, working with the Virginia Forestry Department, plants two seedlings for every tree used in the production of our catalog. This program has been responsible for the reforestation of more than 100 acres of land in Virginia.
Our founder Peter Rice has a proactive approach to the retail, catalog, and interactive business, which has established him as a leader within the industry. In 1994, Peter was selected as the Virginia Retailer of the Year by the Virginia Retail Merchants Association. Peter is a member of the catalog advisory committee of the Direct Marketing Association. He is a past director of the New England Mail Order Association and a past member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Senate Productivity and Quality Award for Virginia. Peter also serves on the Board of Directors for The Montpelier Foundation and the Piedmont Environmental Council.
Problem Solvers's commitment to community involvement is reflected in the many organizations and projects supported by the company. In 1995, Problem Solvers's Business/Education Alliance was awarded Outstanding New Business and Educational Partnership Program by Govenor George Allen. The role model was specifically cited as a role model for partnership programs in rural Virginia.
